Russell C. Reed, 99, of Elyria passed away Friday September 27, 2019 at the Elyria Wesleyan Village following a brief illness. He was born March 13, 1920 in Elyria and was a lifelong Eaton Township/ Elyria resident. Russ was a self-employed farmer and also al letter carrier for the United States Postal Service in Elyria, retiring in 1980. He was a member and past president of Cascade Branch 196 of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He served in the 759th Tank Battalion of the United States Army during W.W. II where he was involved in the invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. Russ was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elyria, American Legion Post 12, and the Elyria Senior Men's Fellowship and was an avid sports fan. Survivors include his wife, Barbara (nee-Hall); son, Dennis (Gail) Reed) daughters, Gayle Maynes, Tamara (Dennis) Durant; Step-daughter, Bonnie (John) Bott; step-son, Donald (Amy) Chalmers; grandchildren, Kristopher Durant, Jonathan (Erica) Durant, Nathan (Kim) Durant, Brandi Durant, Linda (David) Rinehart, Emily (Caleb) Markovich, Douglas Reed, Joseph (Lindsey) Bott and Brian (Dawn) Bott; numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Scott Maynes, sister, Hazel Reed and brother, Harry Reed. The family will receive friends Wednesday October 2, 2019 from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. in the Cascade Hall of the Elyria Wesleyan Village 807 West Ave., Elyria. The Rev. Kurt Walker, Chaplain will Officiate. Private Burial will be at Fields Cemetery, North Ridgeville. Memorial contributions can be made to the Elyria Wesleyan Village. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd., Elyria.
