Russell D. DeWitt Sr.84, of Elyria passed away at home on Tuesday September 14, 2021. He was born January 2, 1937 in Birmingham, OH. Russell served in the United States Marine Corp. He owned and operated DeWitt Brothers Excavating along with his brother, Joe, Gerry and Jim. He was later employed as an Operating Engineer through the Operating Engineer Local #18. He was married for sixty-seven years to Beverly Ann (nee: McKitrick) who sadly passed away on September 25, 2021. Survivors include three daughters; Linda West (Rick) of Amherst, Lori Buchanan (Tom) of Wellington, Shelly Chase (Theodore) of Vermilion, two sons; John DeWitt of Elyria, and Russell David Dewitt Jr. (Carrie) of Amherst. Additional survivors include grandchildren; Sara Morales (Richard), Joey DeWitt, Chris DeWitt, Tommy Buchanan, Josh Buchanan (Aliesha), Grace Buchanan, Sam Buchanan, Ketch DeWitt, Livvy DeWitt, and two great grandchildren; RJ Morales, and Maeson Morales, a sister; Judith Hawkins (Floyd) of Oak Harbor, WA, a brother; Edward DeWitt of Cherry Valley, CA. Russell was preceded in death by his parents; Gerald and Helen (nee: Biltz) DeWitt, three sisters; Enid Gvist, Susan Deidrick, Carol DeWitt, and four brothers; Paul DeWitt, Richard DeWitt, Joseph DeWitt, Gerald DeWitt Jr. and daughter in law; Kimberly DeWitt. Private funeral services were held. Burial was at Brookdale Cemetery in Elyria.
