Roland R. "Bud" Smith 82, of Oberlin passed away Thursday January 17, 2019 at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center following a long illness. He was born September 23, 1936 in Wellington. Bud served in the U.S. Air Force, and retired from The Ford Motor where he worked as an assembler. He owned and cared for horses; loved roller skating and participated in the 2006 and 2008 National Roller Skating Championship. Bud was a life member of V.F. W. Oberlin. Survivors include his wife; Judith A. (nee: Drake), three sons; Edwin of Elyria, Guy of McKeesport, PA. Chad of South Amherst, twelve grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, a sister; Valeria Dawson of Shenandoah, IA., and two brothers; Danny Kay and Rocky. Bud was preceded in death by a son; Ronald, his parents; Edwin and Bessie (nee: Palmer), two sisters; Betty May Sugaski and Waverly Ott, his ex wife: Sheila Newcomber. Prayer services are 11:00 AM Wednesday January 23, 2019 at The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57) Elyria where the family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until time of services at 11:00 AM.
