Rocco Frank "Rocky" Ross 87 of Elyria passed away Friday March 18, 2016 at University Hospital Elyria Medical Center. He was born August 17, 1928 in Elyria and was a 1946 graduate of Elyria High School. Rocco served his Country in the Army Third Infantry Division , 15th regiment 2nd and 3rd Battalion , from March 1951 to February 1952 during the Korean Conflict with the rank of S.F.C. he obtained the Korean Service Medal , combat infantry badge with Four Bronze Stars , where he was honorably discharged July 12, 1952. Rocco was employed by A&P Tea Co. for 30 yrs. , 20 as an assistant manager, also employed by Elyria Lace Co. as a lacemaker for 9 yrs. And also worked for Ridge Tool Co. for 4 yrs. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and served as an usher for 40 yrs. , he was also a member of Hilliard Lakes Golf Club , United Polish Club , and lifetime member of VFW post # 1079. He enjoyed watching and attending sporting events , especially high school and collegiate games. Rocco was an avid fan of Elyria Pioneers , Ohio State Buckeyes , N.Y. Yankees , Browns and Cavs. He was a 1946 golf medalist in the former Lake Erie League, he recorded 4 hole in ones at three different Golf Courses , Two at Elyria Country Club , 1 at Oberlin Golf Club and 1 at Dorlon Park. Survivors include his daughter Deborah Conner of Elyria , son Joseph (Kimberly) Ross of Acworth, Ga. , 3 grandchildren Ashley , Kaitlin , Gehrig , brother James P. Ross , nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Eileen (nee Young) , parents James and Christina (nee Scorda) , sisters Katherine Ross , Carmella Larizza , Mary Diangiacomo , Lucille Guerreri , Nancy Dell-Tore , brothers Joseph Versace , Gus Versace , Nick Ross , and Casey Ross. Family will receive friends 4-8 PM Monday March 21, 2016 at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at St. Rt. 57) , Elyria 440-322-4626. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM Tuesday March 22, 2016 at St. Mary Catholic Church 320 Middle Ave. Elyria, Oh 44035 (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH), following mass full military honors will be provided by VFW post # 1079.
