Robert D. Underwood Sr., 88, of Elyria passed away Friday, September 30, 2022 at Wesleyan Village in Elyria. He was born October 10, 1933 in Clay County, WV. Robert worked for Ford Motor Co. for 30 years until his retirement. Robert was a kind, gentle loving man who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He enjoyed collecting model cars, coins and talking about his service time during Korea. Robert was a member of Amvets post # 32. Survivors include his daughters, Sherry Underwood and Darlene Van Horn both of Elyria; son Robert Jr. of Elyria; grandchildren, Alexander Van Horn and Dylan (Emily) Van Horn; great-grandchildren, Lira Reithmann and Emmett Vanhorn. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley (nee Carter); parents, Elza and Lizzie Underwood (nee Hivley); son-in-law, Mark Van Horn. Family will receive friends from 10 AM until time of service at 11 AM Thursday, October 6, 2022 at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at St. Rt. 57), Elyria 440-322-4626. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens (Avon), where military honors will be provided by Amvets post # 32.
