Robert M. Schlechter, 79 of Elyria passed away December 24, 2013 at home after a brief illness. Robert was born September 14 , 1934 in Elyria, Oh. Robert was a 1952 graduate of Amherst Central High School. He worked for Artesian Springs for 24 years and a milk truck driver at Consun Foods for 14 years. He was a 4H member/advisor , junior fair member, lifelong farmer , and Army veteran. Robert enjoyed tractor shows , county fairs , anything farm related and visiting with his family and friends. Survivors include his son Gregory ( Karen ) of Tallmadge, Oh., sister Jayne ( Dennis ) Walter of Grafton, Oh. , niece Melissa Walter , nephew John ( Jenna ) Walter , great-niece Ashleigh Walter , great-nephew Brayden Walter, and several maternal nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years Janice ( nee Simms ) and his parents Milton and Ruth ( nee Fowl ). The family will receive friends 5:00-8:00PM at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. ( at St. Rt. 57), Elyria.
