Robert J. "Bob" Thompson, 92, of Elyria passed away Friday, February 18, 202 surrounded by his loving family. Bob was a 1947 graduate of Olmsted Falls High School where he met his bride Carol Jean Agnew. They were married for 67 years and raised five children. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1956. Bob was a realtor with Demby Real Estate for over 25 years and then retired from the City of Elyria. Bob was a classic car enthusiast and a collector of vintage automobiles. He was an avid card player and enjoyed cheering for the Cleveland Browns and the Ohio State Buckeyes with his family and friends. Bob was an active Catholic his entire life. He was an usher at St. Jude church for over 50 years and he and his wife Carol were members of the Holy Name and Altar and Rosary societies. He was currently a member at St. Mary's church. Bob was also a very active member of the Knights of Columbus Council 774 of Elyria until the time of his death. In his younger years he enjoyed golfing and was an awesome bowler participating in many tournaments with the K of C. He was Grand Knight from 1973 to 1975 and managed their Colombian Club for over 40 years. He was instrumental in moving them to their current location from downtown Elyria and in the construction of their hall. He was very devoted to their Council and all of its activities. They honored him for his dedication by naming their hall after him in 2020. Bob was a modest, faith filled man and a hard-working, loving and devoted husband and father. He was a loyal friend and cared very deeply about others. He is forever loved and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Survivors include his daughters, Shirley (Gary) Hewitt of Findlay, Susan (John) Fletcher of Elyria; sons, Richard (Tina) of Elyria, John (Barbara) of Sheffield Village; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sister, Elaine Kinter of Elyria; brother, Alan (Debbie) Thompson of Everett, Washington. He was preceded in death by his wife Carol (nee Agnew) in 2017; parents Wilfred and Pearle Thompson (nee Marsh); a son, Bruce. Family will receive friends 4-7 PM Friday, February 25, 2022 at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at St. Rt. 57), Elyria 440-322-4626, where full military honors will be provided by VFW post # 1079. Mass of Christian Burial 10 AM Saturday, February 26, 2022 at St. Mary Catholic Church 320 Middle Ave. Elyria, OH 44035. Rev. Fr. Charles Diedrick will be the Celebrant. Burial Private. In lieu of flowers family suggests those who wish may make donations to St. Mary's Church or the K of C Council 774 118 Kipling St. Elyria, OH 44035.
