Robert E. Butler, 84, passed away peacefully Friday March 25, 2022 at the Elyria Wesleyan Village with his wife by his side. He was born March 6, 1938 in Cleveland and moved to Elyria in 1971. He graduated from Lorain High School in 1956 and worked at U.S. Steel for 36 years as a rigger. He also took classes at Notre Dame College in Euclid in Pastoral Leadership. Bob met his wife Mary at a Parents without Partners meeting and celebrated being married to her for 50 years in 2021. Bob was a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 50 years. He was also an advocate for people with disabilities and caregiver for his wife as needed. Bob was active in many Lorain County and Ohio organizations including St. Mary Parish Council, Izaak Walton League, The Sierra Club and the U.S. Steel Retirees SDAR Program. He was part of the Cleveland Charismatic Renewal in North East Ohio. He adopted his daughter, Melody at the age of 18 at her request after raising hr as his own. He will always be remembered for his quick wit and enjoying life. Aside from his wife Mary and daughter Melody, he also leaves behind their Service Dog, Zoomba whom he loved. Additional survivors include his daughters, Lenore (Gregory) Pille and Penny (Mark) Conrad and son, John (Adele) Butler. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Laura Sepulvedia and grandchildren, Jay Scott Morrison and Luke Conrad, and his parents, John and Adeline Butler. A Memorial Mass and Celebration of Bob's Life was held Thursday April 7, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel at the Elyria Wesleyan Village, first floor, 807 West Avenue, Elyria.
