Richard D. 'Rick" Caruthers, 55, of Wellington passed away Wednesday January 8, 2014 at his home following a brief illness. He was born April 29, 1958 in Elyria and was a lifelong Wellington resident. Rick worked at Mack and Sons in Wellington as a finish carpenter. He was a 1976 Wellington High School graduate, a member of the Wellington Eagles Aerie 2051 and enjoyed snowmobiling, riding four wheelers and spending time with his grandsons and canine companions, Cami and P-Nut. Survivors include his sons, Steve Caruthers of Wellington and Ryan Caruthers of Lorain; grandsons, Caleb, Bradley, Tyler and Dylan; sisters, Nancy (Larry) Szep of Wellington and Barbara (Bill) Welch of Elyria; former wife, Rose Daniels of Wellington; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Vivian Caruthers, brother, Ralph Caruthers, and a great-niece, RaeAnne. A Celebration of Life in Rick's memory will be on Wednesday January 15, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Wellington Eagles Club 631 South Main St. Wellington. Private burial will be at Huntington Cemetery, Huntington Twp. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elyria 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd., Elyria, OH. 44035.
