Richard P. Portnick 71, of Elyria passed away unexpectedly on Monday February 24, 2014 at Medina Mercy Hospital. He was born December 2, 1942 in Cleveland. Richard was an investigator with Lorain County Job and Family services from 1984 to 2007 when he retired. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ, where he was a Deacon. Richard was a workaholic; he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and travel with his wife. Survivors include his wife of fifty years; Alice L. (nee: Hefner) a sister; Donna Livingston of San Antonio, TX, a brother; Mark Portnick of Lorain. Additional survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; Saul and Melba (nee: Bernstein) Portnick. Family will receive friends 4-8 PM Friday February 28, 2014 at The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd.
