Richard M. Choma "Rick", 69, of Sheffield Village, passed away at home Tuesday, August 30, 2022 in the loving care of his family. Rick was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 21, 1952, and grew up in the state of Michigan. He enlisted in the United States Army and earned his Associate's degree from Oakland Community College. He worked as a machine repairman for General Motors and was transferred to Ohio in 1997. After retirement, he enjoyed other business ventures including reselling used cars and customizing golf carts. Rick was a wonderful caring man who loved his family deeply and was especially devoted to his wife Cathy. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Rick had a lively personality. He loved to talk and joke with anyone who would listen. His favorite activity was snowbirding to Florida with Cathy each year. He was happiest when he was sitting in the sunshine in the company of friends or family with a Michelob Ultra in his hand. Rick loved to sing karaoke and listen to music including his favorite, Lady Gaga. Throughout his life, he also enjoyed fishing, cooking, gambling in casinos, and admiring his beautiful flower garden. Survivors include his loving wife of 28 years, Catherine M. Choma (nee Linden), whom he still affectionately referred to as his bride; their 5 children, Shannon (Nic) Appelhans of Bowling Green, Roy (Kimberley) Choma of Rochester Hills, Michigan, Michelle (Dewey) Bogle of Vermilion, Kenneth (Alison) Bowers of Owosso, Michigan and Jeremy Bowers of Clio, Michigan, and Kathy Crouser who he accepted into the family with open arms; 15 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Michael and Eugenia Choma (nee Hakalow). Family will receive friends from 11AM until time of service at 1 PM Saturday, September 3, 2022 at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at St. Rt. 57), Elyria 440-322-4626. In lieu of flowers , the family requests that you plan a special activity with your loved ones and cherish the time you have with them.
