Richard C. 'Dick' Collins, 82, of Grafton, passed away Friday, October 8, 2021 at University Hospital St. John Medical Center while being treated for inoperable cancer. Dick was born September 28, 1939 in Confluence, Pennsylvania. His family moved to the Cleveland area when he was young and eventually settled in North Ridgeville. There he attended and graduated from North Ridgeville High School. After graduation, he married Sandra McVeigh with whom he had three children that he loved very much. He worked for his father at the Tobin Corporation before eventually beginning a career in sales at Sears Corp. He was the top salesman there for many years until he decided to go into realty. He earned his realtor and brokerage licences and became known in the Lorain County area as a well respected and top selling realtor. He was remarried in 2002 to his beloved wife Laura Baksa who remained by his side until he passed. Dick enjoyed outdoor activities including golf and boating. He and Laura spent many winters on the coasts of Florida enjoying the sun and local activities. He also loved his dogs, especially Gracie and he and Laura loved walking her daily. They spent many weeks during the summer at their condo on Kelleys Island, where he enjoyed sitting on the balcony looking at the Lake, riding his bike and of course walking Gracie. He is survived by his wife, Laura; stepmother, Betty Collins; daughter, Cindy (Gary) Dale; son, Mike (Dee) Collins; grandchildren, Krista (Daniel) Riche, Kevin Dale, Jennifer (Noah Dinger) Dale, Courtney (Justin) Morell and Austin Collins; six great-grandchildren and a sister, Doris (Tom) Stanford. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Collins and Leona Collins (nee Bolen); son, Richard R. 'Rich' Collins and sister, Donna Hendricks. Family will receive friends from 5 until time of service at 7 p.m., Friday, October 15, 2021 at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at St Rt. 57), Elyria, 440-322-4626. Burial will be private. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 10501 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, OH 44106 or the Friendship Animal Protective League, 8303 Murray Ridge Rd., Elyria, OH 44035.
