Obituary

Regina Schmitz (nee Fuhrman) passed away at the age of 104 on December 13 , 2015 after a short illness. She was born in Amherst, Ohio on January 22, 1911 and was a graduate of Amherst High School. She and Elmer J. Schmitz were married in 1935 and moved to Elyria in 1939 where she has resided ever since. Regina had an incredible zest for life and enthusiasm for family and friends. She was a homemaker who was dedicated to taking care of her family. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, traveling, reading and gardening. Friends and family will always remember her indomitable spirit and the joy she brought to everyone. Regina looked forward to family celebrations and being the center of those gatherings. She saw the good in all , held an optimism borne of faith in God and put everything in his hands. She was a member of St. Jude Church , St. Jude Altar and Rosary Society , St. Jude Seniors and a former member of St. Agnes Seniors and Amherst St. Joseph's Mission Circle. She also held memberships in NCCW , Elyria KI-Queens , Elyria Woman's Club and the YMCA Cosmopolitan Club. Survivors include daughters Dolores (Clarence) Brown and Kathleen (Ken) Reddinger both of Elyria , 6 grandchildren Debbie (Rick) Zarbaugh , Denise (Tim) Pritchett , Ken (Donna) Reddinger , Keith (Heidi) Reddinger , Kevin (jenell) Reddinger and Kellie Reddinger , 11 great-grandchildren Dean Zarbaugh , Ryan Reddinger , Adam Pritchett , Danielle Reddinger , Megan Pritchett , Sierra White , Jaydin White , Kohle Reddinger, Kollin Reddinger , Kevin Reddinger and Kayla Reddinger , and great-great grandson Alexander Pritchett. She is also survived by step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. The family wants to acknowledge and thank Medeta Treadwell , and her family for the outstanding and loving care they provided to Regina. She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer in 1971 , parents Anthony and Anna Sophia Fuhrman , sisters Germaine Fuhrman and Dorothy Metz and brothers George , Herbert , Joseph and Robert Fuhrman. Family will receive friends 4-8 PM Friday December 18, 2015 at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at St. Rt. 57) Elyria 440-322-4626. Closing Prayers will be 10:30 AM Saturday in the funeral home, followed by 11 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Jude Church 590 Poplar Ave. Elyria. Rev. Fr. Frank Kosem pastor will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery (Amherst). In lieu of flowers family suggests those who wish may make donations to St. Jude Church or "Back to the Wild" 4504 Bardshar Rd. Castila, Ohio 44824.
