Obituary

Raymond Sword 72, of Elyria passed away at his home on Wednesday January 29, 2014 following a long illness. He was born May 10, 1941 in Orkney, KY. Ray served in the U.S. Army with the 32nd Armored Division from 1959 to 1962. He had worked for York International in Elyria for ten years; and retired as a Supervisor from Kasper Foundry following twenty seven years of service. Ray was a member of Amvets Post #32 and The Elyria United Polish Club. He enjoyed NASCAR and football. Ray was the loving husband and caregiver to his wife of fifty two years; Helga (nee: Walther). Additional survivors include a son; James Sword (Amanda) of Elyria, a daughter; Debbie Lawson of Lorain, two grandchildren; Alannah Sword USAF, Shaunta Dennis (Jason), two sisters; Colleen Gregory of Kipton and Barb Sword of Louisville, KY, a brother; Claude Sword of Elyria, and his caretaker at home; Gail Hart. Ray was preceded in death by his parents; Levi and Della (nee: Moore) Sword, five brothers; Matt, Ivel, Delmas,. Daniel, Sam, and four sisters; Nancy Jane, Norma Jean Kilby, Magdaline Roush, Linda Joe. Family will receive friends 4-7 PM Monday February 3, 2014 at The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57) Elyria (440)322-4626 where funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday February 4, 2014 Rev. Jim Deulley will officiate. Burial will be at Brookdale Cemetery in Elyria where Amvets Post #32 will provide full military honors.
