Obituary

Raymond R. Hildebrandt 92, of Carlisle Twp. Passed away Sunday August 3, 2025 following a brief illness. He was born June 7, 1933 in Elyria.  Ray was a 1952 Elyria High School graduate; then proudly served in the U.S. Army, stationed in occupied Germany from 1953-55.  At age 16 he started as a junior volunteer firefighter for the Carlisle Township Fire Department, was hired full-time in 1958 and promoted to Chief in 1970, the position he held until his retirement in 1996.  He also worked part time for over fifty years at Plastic Enterprises. Ray was a parishioner at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church.  He was a long-time member of the Holy Name Society and two-time recipient of Holy Name Man of The Year. President of The Carlisle Township Veterans Memorial Committee, a social member of Elyria United Polish Club, Senior Fellowship, Elyria Catholic Dad's Boosters Club, AMVETS, VFW, American Legion. Ray enjoyed travelling, bowling, golf, playing cards, woodworking and visiting casinos. Survivors include his daughters; Michelle R. Dolensky (David), Monica L. Denowski (Joel), two grandchildren; Logan Christopher and Owen Ray Denowski, a sister; Patricia Krischer (Larry).  Ray also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-one years; Sally Ann (nee: Skok), his parents; Golden J. and Esther (nee: Oates) Hildebrandt, a sister; Ruth Sayles, and a brother; Richard Hildebrandt. The family will receive friends 1-4 PM Sunday August 10, 2025 at The Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. Elyria (440)322-4626. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Monday August 11, 2025 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church 708 Erie St. Grafton, OH 44040.  The Reverend Father John P. Seabold, Pastor will be the Celebrant. Please meet at church. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Elyria where The U.S. Army, AMVETS Post # 32, and VFW #1079 will provide full military honors. The family suggests that memorial contributions in Ray's memory be sent to Friends of Camp Christopher P.O. Box 13814 Fairlawn, OH 44334, Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Grafton or to the charity of the donor's choice.
