Phyllis Joyce Whitehouse (nee: Ford) 89, died peacefully in her home of sixty years on June 7, 2013. Daughter of Florence Erika Hass and Raymond Clare Ford. She was born in Denver, CO., and moved to Bratenahl, Ohio in 1927. A graduate of Shaw High School, Flora Stone Mather College (where she was president of her class) and Kent State University. Phyllis moved to Elyria, OH in 1952 where she was active with the YWCA, Girl Scouts, Beta Sigma Phi and Elyria Summer Theater. She was an avid gardener, bridge player, floral arranger, and musician. She will be dearly remembered for her thirty two years of service to her students at Eastgate Elementary School; and of course, she was the most devoted fan of The Cleveland Indians and Chicago Cubs in the area. She is survived by her daughter; Kristen Cavallini-Soothill of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, son; B.J. Whitehouse and daughter in law Christine W. Ariel of Jamestown, RI., and by her daughter/colleague/best friend; Holly Anne Dellman and her fiance' Dan Nelson of Elyria. Granddaughters; Michelle Antoinette (nee: Span) Hurst and Stephanie Rae (nee: Span) Allen of Ft. Lauderdale, FL., with six great grandchildren, one great great grandchild with another due to arrive any day. Phyllis received loving and professional care in the last years of her life from Kay Litten, Sheila Hiteshaw, Colette Frederick and Sandy Canitano. A Celebration of Phyllis' life will be held on Saturday June 29, 2013 at 12:00 Noon in The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57) Elyria (440)322-4626 where the family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until time of services at 12:00 Noon. Pastor Kathy Ketchum will officiate.
