Paul E. Hoch, 87, of Elyria passed away Tuesday November 27, 2012 at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky following a long illness. He was born June 26, 1925 in Lancaster, OH. And was a Elyria resident for most of his life. Paul worked as a carpenter out of the Cleveland Local of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters for 42 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Elyria, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society and formerly served on the parish council. He served in the United States Army in the European Theater during W.W. II for which he received 4 bronze stars, 1 silver star and the Purple Heart Medal. Paul was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, was formerly active with the Boy Scouts of America Troops 150 & 133, the Catholic Council on Scouting and served as a CYO basketball coach at the former Holy Cross and St. Agnes Schools. Survivors include his daughters, Kathy Gantt of Hurst, TX., Connie Duensing of Wakeman and Kris Holford of Elyria; sons, Paul "Tim" Hoch of Lancaster, OH. And Allan Hoch of Wakeman; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Hoch of Lancaster. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary (nee-Silcott) in 1999, grandson, Allan Edward in 1989, sisters, Kate Acton, Mary King, Betty Clum and Dorthy Robb, brothers, Frank, George, Charles, Rev. Richard and James Hoch. The family will receive friends Sunday 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57) Elyria. Closing prayers will be Monday at 9:00 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Agnes Church 611 Lake Ave., Elyria. The Rev. Albert Veigas, pastor and the Rev. Edward Czech of the Ohio Veterans Home will be the Con-Celebrants. Burial will be private.
