Norma Lucille Horning (nee: Smith) 91, of North Ridgeville passed away at home on Friday September 30, 2016 following complications from a stroke on her 90th birthday. She was born April 7, 1925 in Lodi. She lived in Penfield with her first husband Keith Preston who passed away in 1954. Norma attended beauty school in Cleveland, and was a hair dresser for fifty years. She had a salon in Wellington when she lived in Penfield. She married John in 1956 , and he built her a salon in their home in North Ridgeville where she worked two days a week until the late 1980's when John retired. Together they enjoyed spending some winters in Florida until John's passing in 1991. Norma used to help at her daughter Debbie's salon to keep busy. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, trips with Young At Heart from Fields United Methodist Church, and The North Ridgeville Senior Center. She spent summers at her RV in Port Clinton where she enjoyed fishing and boating with John. Norma also belonged to RSVP and The Red Hat Society. Norma will be deeply missed by her daughter; Debbie Horning of Elyria, two sons; Gary Preston (Sheila) of Penfield, Dale Preston of Pittsfield, five grandchildren; Valerie, Katie, Zackery, Jeremy, and Meggan, four great grandchildren; Cameron, Stella, Landin, and Liam. Norma was preceded in death by her second husband; John Horning in 1991, her son Kevin Horning in 1994, a brother; Virgil Smith, her parents; Harley and Ester (nee: Baker) Smith, and her first husband Keith Preston. Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday October 4, 2016 at Pittsfield Cemetery. Norma's nephew; John R. Horning will officiate. There will be food and fellowship at Kathy O'Reilly's home at 53 Edgewood Dr. in Brentwood Lake, Grafton. Kathy and her sister; Alice had taken wonderful care of Norma where she resided since June of 2015. Norma loved her grand dog; Oscar. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Norma's memory can be sent to Friendship APL 8303 Murray Ridge Rd. Elyria, OH 44035.
