Nicholas R. "Bob" Resar, 86, of Grafton passed away Thursday February 19, 2015 at his home following a brief illness. He was born August 13, 1928 in Elyria and was a Grafton resident for most of his life. Bob retired as a foreman/carpenter for Gene Resar, Inc. and along with his wife was the co-owner of Resar Florist until its closing in 2005. He attended St. Mary Grade School in Elyria, was a 1948 Elyria High School graduate and attended Bowling Green State University where he was a member of Alpha Phi fraternity. Bob was served in the 511th Regimental Combat Team of the 11th Airborne Division of the United States Army, was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Grafton, where he was formerly a member of the Holy Name Society, the Grafton-Midview Kiwanis Club and the Lorain County Florist Association. He was a former Eaton Twp. Volunteer Fireman and in 1982 was inducted into the Elyria Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the 1947 undefeated football team. His interests included watching football, especially Ohio State and Norte Dame, playing cards with the Fine Nine Poker Club and spending time with family and friends. He attended a Rose Bowl parade and traveled to Florida and Rome, Italy. Survivors include his daughters, Kathy (John, deceased) Poulton of LaGrange, Peggy Resar and Terry (Dennis) Wifong both of Grafton; sons, Dale (Donna) Resar and Robert (Kathleen) Resar both of Elyria; grandchildren, Rob (Kim) Wilfong, Ann (Travis) Irvan, Tim Poulton, Rebecca (Chris) Cagle, Nicholas Resar, Susan Resar, Matthew Resar and Brittany Resar; great-grandchildren, Zeke Irvan, Zoe Irvan and Riley Wilfong. Sister, Wendy Pearson (Jack, deceased); sisters-in-law, Gladys Resar and Mary Resar. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen, (nee-Mihalis) in 2014, parents, John and Florence (nee-Green), brothers, Gene Resar, Jim (Marge) Resar, John Edward (Evelyn) Resar and Larry Resar; sisters, Rosella (Ray) Ewers, Dolores (Al) Kistner, Vivian (Walter) Kapucinski and Mary (Orrin) Brewster.The family will receive friends Monday 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria, where the Rosary will be recited at 6:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday February 24, 2015 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church 708 Erie St., Grafton. (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH). The Rev. Fr. John P. Seabold, pastor, will be the Celebrant. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria, where members of V.F.W. Post 1079 will conduct full military honors.
