Nelson Morales, age 73, of Elyria Township, Ohio, passed away on August 18, 2022, of a recent illness. He was born on July 1, 1949 in Villalba, Puerto Rico to Marcial Morales and Francisca "Panchita" Gonzalez. He proudly served in the U.S. Army after graduating high school in Puerto Rico; then moved to Lorain, Ohio, in 1970. He worked for numerous freight companies but would eventually retire from Fed Ex Freight in 2013. After retiring, he enjoyed teaching driver's education. Nelson is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Jean (Howard), and seven children; Nelson (Mandy) Morales, Jr., Maggie (Shelley) Morales, Mercy (Edward) Wright, Jeff (Angie) Morales, Debra (Steven) Sorg, Jay (Jessica) Morales, and Brittany Morales; ten grandchildren, Sinead, Cecilia, Jackie, Julysa, Edward, Sophia, Jae Marie, Maximo, Abigail, and Emily; five great-grandchildren, Ava, Olivia, SirByron, Calvin and Iris. Also, his two sisters, Nereida (Ruben Pabon), Yolanda (Edwin Berrios), and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Jose "Cheo" Morales. Nelson discovered golf after playing baseball and softball for many years, and it became the love of his life. He played often with his good group of friends, sons, and grandson. Love of music ran in the family. He enjoyed listening to music, specifically Puerto Rican folk music. In his spare time, he could be found tinkering with his golf clubs, taking on home projects, and watching his favorite Cleveland baseball team. Family and friends will be received from 4 PM to 7 PM on Monday, August 22, 2022, followed by a short service at Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd.
