Nancy Fisher

Nancy Fisher (née Armitage), age 76, of Wellington, passed away peacefully at home in the early hours of Thursday, February 26, 2026.

Born in Elyria, OH, on February 22, 1950, Nancy was the daughter of William Armitage and Joan (McCawley) Smith. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Akron and later obtained her Master’s Degree in School Administration from Ashland University.

Teaching was Nancy’s lifelong passion. She dedicated 25 years to teaching at Westwood Elementary School, followed by five years serving as principal. She deeply loved children and took great pride in nurturing and supporting them during the most formative years of their lives. Her commitment to education extended beyond the classroom as she proudly served her community as a Wellington Township Trustee for 12 years.

Nancy was known for her dedication, generosity, courage, honesty, kindness, and wonderful sense of humor. A natural leader, she stood firmly in her beliefs, living with conviction and inspiring those around her. In 2002, she was nominated to carry the Olympic torch in advance of the Winter Olympic Games—an honor she held with deep pride.

She cherished her family and close friends and found joy in life’s simple pleasures. In her free time, she enjoyed swimming, writing, raising animals, and especially riding her beloved horses.

Nancy is survived by her high school sweetheart and devoted husband of 55 years, David Fisher; her daughter, Jenna Fisher (Adam Bouayad); her son, Brett (Sarah) Fisher; her cherished grandchildren, Etta Bouayad and Daxton Fisher; and her brother, William (Rebecca) Armitage.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Armitage Sr.; her mother, Joan (McCawley) Smith; her brother, James Armitage; and her niece, Anne (Armitage) Labadie.

A private celebration of life for family and close friends will be held at a later date.
