Michele K. "Shelley" Elek, 65, of Elyria passed away Saturday December 26, 2015 at Keystone Pointe in LaGrange following a long illness. She was born June 24, 1950 in Elyria and was a lifelong Elyria resident. Shelley worked as a assembler at the Murray Ridge Production Center in Elyria for 50 years. Shelley was one of the initial students at the Murray Ridge School and greatly enjoyed her work at the Production Center. Her other joys in life included music, dancing and dining out. Survivors include her brother, Paul "Buz" (Andrea "Candy") Elek of Elyria; niece, Sarah Elek and nephew, Noah Elek. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Jr. and Pauline Elek. The family will receive friends on Monday January 4, 2016 from 12 noon until the time of services at 1:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. The Rev. Chuck Behrens, Chaplain of Hospice of the Western Reserve will Officiate. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Murray Ridge Support Group because Shelley so enjoyed the monthly dances organized by the Support Group.
