Michael A. Plas 72, of Elyria passed away Wednesday September 18, 2024 at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born January 25, 1952 in Elyria.  Michael served in the U.S. Navy, and had worked as a machinist.  He was a member of St. Mary Church in Elyria. Michael's true passion was car racing; he enjoyed working on cars, Cleveland sports, and time with family and friends.  Michael was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous and was sober for the last seventeen years. Survivors include his loving wife of twenty two years; Susan (nee: Nolan), two sons; Michael W. Plas, Matthew P. Plas, a daughter; Kelli A. Nolan. Additional survivors include a grandson; Matthew Plas, three sisters; Mary Addi, Laura Plas, Ginny Plas, and two brothers; Steve Plas, Art Plas, and his neighbor and friend; Patty Wilson.  Michael was preceded in death by his parents; James and Patricia (nee: Kaminski) Plas, and two brothers Zoyd Plas and John Plas.  The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Friday September 27, 2024 at The Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. Elyria (440)322-4626 where a celebration of Michael's life will be at 7:00 PM immediately following visitation. The Reverend Father Charles T. Diedrick will officiate. V.F.W. Post 1079 will provide military honors at the funeral home following services. Burial will be private.
