Melvin "Mel" T. Haag Sr., age 87, of Elyria, passed away on May 29, 2025, at Cleveland Clinic Avon Campus. Born in Oberlin, Ohio, Melvin grew up on the family farm, land that is now home to the Elyria Airport. He lived a full and meaningful life marked by hard work, love of family, and service to his community.

Mel dedicated many years to Ford Motor Company, where he worked as a General Supervisor. He enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies including bowling, camping, and woodworking in his basement workshop. A proud and active member of the Elyria Lions Club, Mel was always eager to lend a hand to others.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Janet (née Wissinger), whom he married on July 22, 1983. He leaves behind a large and loving family: daughters, Marsha (James) Flores; stepdaughters, Paula (Mick Harris) Sinegar and Julie (Charles) Shinn; daughter-in-law, Doreen Sinegar; sons, Mel (Cindy) Haag, Scott (Theresa) Haag, and Thomas (Carol) Haag; step-sons, Edward Sinegar, Mark Sinegar, and Joel (Donna) Sinegar, and son-in-law Frank Wilson.

Mel is also survived by his sister, Barbara (Bernard) Montgomery.  He was blessed with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy and pride.He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Regina (née Yarka) Haag, mother-in-law, Eleanor Wissinger; daughter, Cindy Wilson; step-son, Dave Sinegar; daughter-in-law, Regina Sinegar, and his grandson, Shaun Sinegar.

Mel will be remembered for his warmth, work ethic, and dedication to family. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 from 10 a.m. until the time of service at noon at the Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Road (at State Route 57) in Elyria.  A private burial will take place at North Murray Ridge Cemetery in Elyria.
