Melvin A. Kauffman 83, of Lorain passed away Tuesday May 14, 2013 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain following a long illness. He was born December 27, 1929 in Elyria, and was raised in Westlake. Melvin served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He had worked 30 years for Kauffman Trucking, and was a material handler for Fruehauf. Melvin was a security guard for Allen Hospital at the time his illness began. He enjoyed watching sports; especially baseball, and enjoyed tinkering around the house. Survivors include his wife of fifty years; Hazel A. (nee: Miller), a daughter; Christine L. Yonkings (David) of Elyria, a son; Allen Kauffman (Bettina) of Vermilion, additional survivors include six grandchildren; David M., Kerry (Dominique), Douglas R., Kaity, Stephanie, Christine, two great grandchildren; Jesse and Hunter, a sister; Carol Ann Miller (Richard) of Wellington, five brothers; Robert L. (Gislina) of Lorain, Kenneth (Jane) of Elyria, Harold (Carol Mae) of Elyria, Russell (Mary Anne) of Bay Village, Kevin (Jerry) of Avon Lake. Melvin was preceded in death by a daughter; Susan Kauffman, a son; Paul (Carrie) Kauffman, and his parents; Melvin J. and Helen Kauffman, and a sister; Joyce Helsel (Sonny). Memorial Services 4:00 PM Sunday June 2, 2013 at Christ Lutheran Church 4501 Clinton Ave. Lorain, Ohio 44055 where Rev. Laurie A. Miller, Pastor will officiate. V.F. W. Post #1079 will provide full military honors at the church immediately following memorial services. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions in Melvin's memory can be sent to the church or to the charity of the donor's choice.
