Matthew T. Ternes 51, of Grafton passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday December 31, 2019. He was born August 21, 1968 in Elyria. Matt was a 1986 Elyria Catholic High School graduate, and had worked as a salesman for over thirty years. He was co owner of Elite Industrial Controls in Berlin Heights, and was a manufacturer's representative for TRM. Matt was a member of St. Jude Church, Knights of Columbus, and The Elyria Moose Lodge. He was a constant tinkerer around his homestead; Matt enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, restoring his John Deere tractor. He will be missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife of thirty years; Kathryn A. (nee: Bilancini), three daughters; Marisa A. Diederich (Brett) of Beachwood, Meredith A. Ternes, Mackenna A. Ternes both of Grafton, two sons; Matthew T. Ternes II of San Francisco, CA., Myles A. Ternes of Grafton. Additional survivors include four sisters; Patricia Gill (Jim) of Myrtle Beach, SC., Barbara Kaiser (Rand) of Sagamore Hills, Jeanette Benjamin (Scott) of LaGrange, Karen Cox (John) of Sagamore Hills, two brothers; Paul Ternes (Carrie) of Naples, FL., Ralph Ternes Jr. (Carol) of Torrance, CA. Matt was preceded in death by his parents; Ralph and Margaret (nee: Nasipak) Ternes, and a brother; Larry Ternes (Mari Jo). The family will receive friends from 1-4 PM Sunday January 5, 2020 at The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Monday January 6, 2020 at St. Jude Church 590 Poplar St. Elyria. The Reverend Father Frank P. Kosem, Pastor Emeritus will be the Celebrant.
