Mary Michailides (nee Adamson), loving mother, grandmother, and great-grand mother, passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at the Pines Nursing Home in Catskill, New York from natural causes at 87 years old. Mary was born April 23, 1931 in Vestaburg, Pennsylvania, to loving parents, Hugh and Sarah (nee Maxwell) Adamson. Mary graduated from California University of Pennsylvania (formerly California State Teachers College) in California, Pennsylvania. Mary taught elementary education for over 32 years and initially worked for Lorain City Schools. However, the majority of her teaching career was spent at Elyria City Schools primarily teaching fourth grade at Hamilton and Franklin Schools. Mary met the love of her life, Michael Michailides, shortly after she moved to Lorain. Mary and Michael were married on April 2, 1957 for 42 years until Michael passed away in May, 1999. They raised their two daughters, Sally and Stephanie and one son Hugh, in Elyria. Mary's vocation in life was teaching school children and making a positive difference in their lives through the classroom. Mary was an avid reader who loved a good murder mystery. Her passions in life were her children and grandchildren and she enjoyed spending all of her spare time devoted to them. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Sarah Adamson; loving husband, Michael Michailides; brothers Daniel, Adamson and Harry Adamson and sisters, Margie Havanas, Anabel Adamson and Boo Orlandi. Mary is survived by her three children, Sally Michailides of Hurley, New York, Stephanie Sutton of Wakeman and Hugh Michailides (Vicky Taylor) of Sullivan; granddaughters, Sarah and Brittany Sutton, Shelby and Chelsea Townsend; great-grandchildren, Parker and Amelia Sutton-Pedraza, Tristan and Rex Wlodyka and nephews and nieces. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, December 29, 2018 at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at St. Rt. 57), Elyria 440-322-4626, from 12 Noon to 2 PM. Donations can be made on Mary's behalf to the Elyria Public Library Summer Reading Program, 320 Washington Ave. Elyria, Ohio 44035.
