Mary Catherine Hawkins, (nee-Fada), of Elyria passed away peacefully on Thursday January 9, 2020 surrounded by family. Mary was born April 7, 1934 in Smock, PA. to the late Andrew and Mary Fada. After graduating from East Hunnington High School in 1951, Mary joined the United States Navy where she began her career as an x-ray technician. Upon being discharged in 1956 she made her home in Elyria with her late husband Billy Joe. Mary was a gifted painter and talented seamstress. She loved to bake and was best known for her chocolate chip squares. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Billy Joe, sisters, Louise Hribal, Dorothy Schaffer and Ilene Tylka. Survivors include her brothers, Andrew (Janet) Fada, Robert (Patricia) Fada, Joseph (Candace) Fada, James (Patricia, deceased), Fada and John (Linda) Fada; sons, William (Liz Albert) Hawkins and Bruce (DeidreAnn) Hawkins; grandchildren, Jessica (Eric) Newton, Danielle (Gary) Hawkins, Jeremy Hawkins, and Erica and Emily Hawkins; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Jackson, Bryce, Brady and Brennen Newton and Domanic and Jackson Hawkins. The family will receive friends Friday 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday January 18, 2020 at St. Mary Catholic Church 320 Middle Ave., Elyria. (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH).The Rev. Fr. Charles Diedrick, pastor will be the Celebrant. Christian Burial Services will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria, where members of V.F.W. Post 1079 will conduct full military honors.
