Mary Jo Gurchik (nee: Kaufman) 78, of Elyria passed away Saturday October 19, 2019 at St. Mary of The Woods in Avon following a long illness. She was born October 27, 1940 in Cleveland. Mary Jo was a member of St. Jude Church. She loved spending time with her family, and enjoyed gardening and camping. Survivors include two daughters; Mary Cay Doherty (Kevin) of Olmsted Twp., Molly Apo (Derek) of Strongsville, three sons; Stephen J. Gurchik Jr. (Kristina) of South Amherst, Joseph C-K Gurchik (Heather) of Elyria, Matthew J-P Gurchik (Tamara) of Olmsted Falls. Additional survivors include fifteen grandchildren; Megan, Michael, Daniel, Catherine, Tyler, Stephen, Jayden, Ashley, Brandon, Derek, Andrew, James, Emma, Jensen, Henley one great grandchild; Brantley, two sisters; George Ann Latham (Chuck) of South Carolina, Jean Robinson (David) of North Carolina, and a brother; Joseph Kaufman (Marcy) of Olmsted Falls. Mary Jo was preceded in death by her husband of thirty five years; Stephen J. Sr., a daughter; Suzanne, her parents; Joseph and Maureen (nee: Jensen) Kaufman. The family will receive friends 4-8 PM Wednesday October 23, 2019 at The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 547) Elyria (440)322-4626 where closing prayers will be at 10:30 AM on Thursday. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Thursday October 24, 2019 at St. Jude Church 590 Poplar St. Elyria. The Reverend Father Joseph Scalco, Pastor will be the Celebrant.
