Mary Brigid "Biddy" (McGowan) St. Marie, 84, died peacefully in her home on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. Her death came quietly without illness or pain on a calm evening at home after a beautiful weekend with many of her grandchildren.

She was born March 2, 1941 in Elyria, Ohio to Martin and Mary (Seward) McGowan.

Biddy graduated in 1959 from Elyria Catholic High and from The College of Mount St. Joseph in 1963.  She was a dedicated alumna all her life keeping classmates connected and encouraging philanthropy to Catholic education.

Biddy held a particular love for St. Mary Parish in Elyria. It is here that she met her husband Leon. In fact, their mothers attended St. Mary School together as well as all five of their children. Biddy volunteered all her life at her parish and took great pride in its beautiful community of faith.

Biddy is survived by her five grown children, Matthew (Stephanie) of Elyria, Michelle of Beverly Hills, CA, Jill Hoagland (Bradley) of Alexandria, VA, Kathleen "Kitty" Pinter (Wade) of Elyria and Laura Jackson (Blake) of San Jose, CA. She has 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.  Also surviving are her brother, James McGowan of Seattle, WA and her sister, Ann McGowan Porath of Shaker Heights, OH as well as countless godchildren, nieces, and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Leon Joel St. Marie, her parents, brother Martin, and sister Katharine "Kitty".

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 30, 2025 at Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home 38475 Chestnut Ridge Road (at State Route 57) in Elyria from 4-7pm.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Father Charles T. Diedrick, pastor at St. Mary Church 320 Middle Avenue at  10:00 a.m. on Tuesday July 1, 2025.  The St. Marie family will greet friends at the Knights of Columbus after a private burial at St. Mary Cemetery following the Mass.
