Obituary

Mary L. Bauer, (nee-Byam), 83, of Elyria passed away Monday October 28, 2013 at Arden Courts of Westlake following a long illness. She was born October 31, 1929 in Elyria and was a lifelong Elyria resident. Mary was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Elyria, a 1947 Elyria High School graduate, was a past president of the Junior Women's Club, formerly worked at Puffer's Floral Shop in Elyria and the former Bauer Dairy. She enjoyed playing golf and bridge. Survivors include her daughters, Jody (Joe) Zalka of LaGrange and Jayne (Bob) Carlson of Grafton; son, John (Madalyn) Bauer of West Salem; grandchildren, Amy, John, Bonnie, Kelsey, Julie, Andy and Carrie; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Eleanor Folley of Elyria. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred "Bud" Bauer in 2008, grandson, Joseph J. Zalka III in 2000, sisters, June Sessler and Marjorie Derringer and brothers, Raymond Helling, Sherwood Byam Jr., James Byam, Jay Byam and Jack Byam. The family will receive friends Wednesday 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. A Memorial Mass will be Celebrated on Thursday October 31, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church 320 Middle Ave., Elyria (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH). The Rev. Fr. Charles Diedrick, pastor, will be the Celebrant. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions can be made to the Dominic Zunis Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o the Midview Board of Education 13050 Durkee Rd. Grafton, OH. 44044 or to the Fresenius Medical Care Heritage 1160 East Broad St. Elyria.
