Mary Alice Thompson of Elyria passed away peacefully on September 6, 2024. Mary Alice was born in Pittsburgh, PA. on January 27, 1938, as the eldest child to George and Mary (Stewart) Andra. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David Alexander Thompson in 1973. Mary Alice was a strong provider and support to her four children and their spouses, David and Pam (Baranski) Thompson, Suzanne (Thompson) and Mark Spurlock, Steven and Julie (Mason)

Thompson and Thomas Thompson; 8 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 4 step-great-grandchildren; brothers, Raymond (Susan nee-Hornyak) Andra, George (Sandra nee-Saloum) Andra and Paul (Shirley-nee Johnston) Andra; sister, Karen (Andra) and John Rosenberger and many nieces and nephews. Mary Alice graduated from Ford City High School, PA in 1955 and graduated from Robert Morris Business School in Pittsburgh. She was employed by Pittsburgh Plate and Glass Industries, Ford City, PA. in her younger life and later by the Elyria Public Library for 28 years. She was a long-time member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Elyria. Mary Alice loved cooking, travel, trying new restaurants and food, card games, and spending time with family and friends. Her contagious smile lit up the room and she was the first one on the dance floor at weddings and special events. Mary Alice loved books and was a avid reader of historical fiction ,mysteries and cookbooks. She loved gifting cherished books and cookbooks to her family. Mary Alice was an enthusiastic fan of all sports, especially Cleveland sports teams. She took special joy in her grandchildren and was most happy spending time with family and friends. She was loved deeply and will be missed dearly. Family will receive friends Thursday 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd., Elyria. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday September 13, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Jude Church 590 Poplar St., Elyria. (please meet at church). Christian burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria.
