While growing up in Ridgeville with his family, he helped garden, weeding, picking, and manning the vegetable stand, Animals had to be tended too. there were neighborhood games, fishing in the creek. He enjoyed visits from our "city cousins" showing them the in and outs of farming. He joined his brothers and sisters and used to walk from their home on Race Rd. to St. Peter's for First Fridays with the Diederichs during the summer. Marty and Marilyn purchased a condominium when he wintered in Florida, coming back in the spring to work at the company and farm. While in Florida, he missed not being able to "get his hands dirty" so he looked for a place and found it in Bradenton. He had a successful little garden and enjoyed the orange and grapefruit trees. He befriended the owner of a forge, enjoyed over to the forge to work with the ironworks. Eventually, after the death of the owner, he purchased it and his son; Martin took over.
