Obituary

Martha H. Cooksey (nee Holfelder) 99 of Elyria passed away Friday June 20,2014 at the Wesleyan Village of Elyria following a lengthy illness. The daughter of Martha and Leo Holfelder, she was born and raised in Lorain,Ohio, where she was an active member of St. John's Evangelical Church. She was married to the late Dan H. Cooksey, vice president for industrial relations at Chromalloy American Corporation, based at Elyria Foundry. She is survived by daughters Diane Kessler of Newton Centre, Massachusetts and Connie Gardner of Costa Rica; son-in-law Douglass Gardner; grandchildren Peter Kessler and Nathan Gardner; and great-grandchildren William and Seth Kessler and Everett Gardner. Martha graduated from Lorain High School and Evangelical Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Detroit, Michigan, where she received her RN. Prior to her marriage in 1943, she was a nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital in Lorain. She used her nursing skills as a civilian employee of the United States Navy at Cherry Point, North Carolina during the Second World War. In the early 1950's she nursed part-time at the Elyria Memorial Hospital. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Elyria, and was an officer in First Church Women. She dedicated her life to her family and friends. She enjoyed cooking and baking, embroidery, and visiting shut-in's. Burial Private. Memorial Service will be 12 Noon Saturday June 28,2014 at the Wesleyan Village 807 West Street, Elyria,Ohio 44035.Rev Beth McKee chaplain of Wesleyan village will officiate. immediately followed by a reception.
