Obituary

Marilyn Ruth Jencso (née Opfer), 87, of Vermilion, passed away peacefully at Mercy New Life Hospice in Lorain on Thursday, November 13, 2025. She was born in Elyria on October 5, 1938, to parents, Charles H. and Ruth I. (née Jones) Opfer. Marilyn grew up with a warm spirit and a heart dedicated to the people she loved. She was a proud graduate of LaGrange High School.

Marilyn devoted 30 years of service to the Cleveland Psychiatric Institute, where her compassion, steadiness, and gentle nature touched countless lives. She was a longtime member of LaGrange Methodist Church and treasured the friendships and fellowship she found there.

Marilyn was a majorette for Keystone Schools, a role she was very fond of.

She enjoyed building puzzles, participating in Civil War reenactments, and collecting ornaments—especially at Christmastime, her favorite season. Marilyn had a special gift for decorating for every holiday, creating warmth and joy in her home that reflected her deep love for tradition and celebration.

Above all, Marilyn cherished her family. Moments spent together—holidays, gatherings, or simple everyday visits—were the heart of her happiness. Her gentle presence, her kindness, and her love for family will be remembered always. Marilyn leaves behind a legacy of warmth, care, and cherished memories that will forever be held close by those who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her step-daughter, Karen (Stan) Yorkovich; sons, Bruce (Pamela) Weiland, Bryan (Brenda) Weiland; step-son, Steven (Kathy) Jencso; grandchildren, Patrick, Steven, Niki, Stacy, Jill, Dan, Bill, Josh, and 17 great-grandchildren. Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Steven; brother, Harris Opfer. Per Marilyn's request, all services will be private.
