Margery Shaffstall (nee Kerekes), 95 of Elyria passed away peacefully Tuesday February 21, 2017 at Keystone Pointe in LaGrange. She was born December 18, 1921 in New Bremen, N.Y. to Steven and Clara Kerekes. Her family moved to a coal mining town in Harlan County,KY. and eventually moved to a farm in Vermilion,OH. Margery attended Vermilion schools and graduated from Vermilion High School in 1940. During WWII she joined the Women's Army & Air Corp and was known as a "WAC", where she learned her trade as a Dental Assistant. Margery loved spending time with family, especially the grandkids. She also enjoyed being outdoors, doing yardwork, gardening, and dancing Saturday nights at the Eagles club and VFW. Margery was a member of St. Jude Church, Alter & Rosary Society, VFW post 1079 auxillary, and Brentwood Bells golf league. Survivors include her sons Bruce (Char) of Elyria, John (Sharon) of North Ridgeville, Dan (Denise) of Elyria; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward in 1997; sisters Helen Kerekes and Ann (Kerekes)Shaffstall; brother Gabriel Kerekes. Memorial Mass 10 AM Saturday March 4, 2017 at St. Jude Catholic Church 590 Poplar St. Elyria, Ohio 44035. Rev. Fr. Frank Kosem will be the Celebrant. Graveside to follow at St. Mary Cemetery (Elyria), where full military honors will be provided by VFW post 1079.
