Margaret M. Thoman (nee: Kohl), 65, of Elyria, passed away at home on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Elyria on October 9, 1958 and attended Elyria Catholic High School. Margaret was self employed as a housekeeper for many years. She was selfless, always giving to others, and known for her infectious laugh. Earlier in her life, she was very involved at St. Jude School. She attended nearly every sporting event or function of her children and grandchildren. Anything they were involved in was her top priority. Her most proud title was, Mimi, to her five grandchildren. So many others called her that too. She enjoyed traveling and going on vacation to the beach with her family. She will be missed by all who knew her. Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Scotty; daughter, Jennifer (John) Smith, Jr.; son, Christopher (Brenda) Thoman; mother, Jane (nee: Blair); sister, Carol (Robert) Bair; brothers, Thomas (Bev) Kohl and Edward (Benitta) Kohl; grandchildren, James "JC" Lucki, Michael Thoman, Annalise Smith, Nicholas Thoman, and Alexander Smith; numerous nieces and nephews. After losing their mother at a young age, beloved Aunt Margie became more like a mom to Ben, Sarah, Andrew and Emily Decker. She is preceded in death by her father, Regis Kohl, and sister, Janet Decker. Family will receive friends on Sunday, December 10, 2023 from 1 PM – 4 PM at the Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home 38475 Chestnut Ridge Road (at State Route 57) in Elyria. Closing prayers will be held at the funeral home on Monday, December 11, 2023 at 9:45 AM followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM at St. Jude Catholic Church 590 Poplar Street in Elyria. Rev. Fr. Frank P. Kosem and Rev. Deacon Patrick Humphrey will Con-Celebrate. A private burial at St. Mary Cemetery in Elyria will be at a later date.
