Marcella M. "Marcia" Rothgery

Marcella (Marcia) Rothgery passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026, at the Cleveland Clinic Avon, surrounded by family who loved her so dearly. Known for a smile that could light up any room, Marcia was a cherished friend to many and a steady source of kindness. Faith and family were the heart of her life. A devoted member of St. Jude Catholic Church, she volunteered on countless committees, helped organize the parish prenatal shower, and served as a Eucharistic Minister to the sick. Her compassion was quiet, constant, and deeply felt by all who crossed her path. Marcia found joy in the beauty of nature and expressed it through her watercolor paintings, capturing peaceful scenes. She also created treasured family traditions, making every birthday special with thoughtful gifts, home‑cooked meals, and her beloved cakes and pies. A proud graduate of Elyria Catholic High School, Class of 1957, Marcia married her high school sweetheart, Donald J. Rothgery. For 65 years, they shared a life built on devotion, partnership, and enduring love. She worked over 50 years for the Schlather Insurance Agency working her way up from secretary to Licensed Agent. Marcia is survived by her children, Dave (Sandy) Rothgery, Don T. (Cathy) Rothgery, Brian (Gina) Rothgery, and Renee (Rich) Barrett; her grandchildren, David (Casie) Rothgery Jr., Devin (Dan) Barnhart, Joshua (Maggie) Hopkins, Jenna (Derrick) Heindel, Steven Rothgery, Maggie (Nick) Crosby, Jackie Rothgery, Katie Rothgery, Tyler (Nicole) Runkle, Dave Runkle, Colin Barrett, and Brendan Barrett; and sixteen great‑grandchildren who brought her immense joy and pride. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald J., her parents Leonard and Marcella (nee Westrick) Smith, siblings: Norma Smith, Eldon Smith, Earl Smith, Mary Jane Dempsey, and Kenneth Smith. Marcia’s legacy is one of faith, creativity, generosity, and a heart open to all. She will be deeply missed.
