Lorne J. Elbert Jr. (Sonny, Prez., The Duke) 74, of Grafton passed away Friday at the Elyria Weslyan Village following a brief illness. He was born May 4, 1937 in Elyria and was a Elyria/Grafton resident for his entire life. Lorne attended Elyria Catholic High School, but his dreams led him to start his own company, which grew into Elbert Enterprises. His roofing company expanded into a general construction and excavating company. He was a incredible husband, father, Papa, brother and friend. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Lorene (nee-Gannon); sons, Louis J. (Colleen) of Grafton, Dr. Patrick J. (Melissa) of Amherst, Lorne J. III (Gwen) of Grafton and Joseph J. (Jennifer) of Elyria; daughter, Lisa (Barret) Pulver of Manhattan Beach, CA.; son-in-law, Thomas Laubenthal of Grafton; grandchildren, Katie, Kelly, Louis Jr., Victoria, Erin, Ryan, Lindsey, Matthew, Luke, Danielle, Lorne IV, Elizabeth, Alexis, Sonny, and Benjamin. Brothers, Earl J. (Bobbie) of Orlando, Fl., Thomas J. of Grafton, and Michael J. (Pamela) of Grafton; sisters, Nancy (Kenneth) Buescher of North Ridgeville and MaryAnn (John) Giovannazzo of Elyria. He was preceded in death by his daughter Renee' Marie Laubenthal on July 21, 2009, and his parents, Lorne J. Sr. and Frances Elbert. The family will receive friends Monday April 30, 2012 from 2:00-7:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church 320 Middle Ave., Elyria. (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH). The Rev. Charles Diedrick, pastor, will be the Celebrant. Entombment will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria.
