Elyria

Loretta Sue Shumaker

Loretta “Sue” Shumaker, 87, of Elyria passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at Ganzhorn Suites of Avon.

Sue was born on March 3, 1939, and was originally from Mabscott, West Virginia. She later made her home in Elyria, where she built a life centered around family, love and devotion to those closest to her.

Sue was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas “Bill” Leslie Shumaker. Sue and Bill were married for 67 years, sharing a lifetime of memories, raising their family together, and building a lasting legacy of love and commitment.

She is survived by her brother, Jack Smith and three sons, Thomas Lee Shumaker (Donna), Ryan Shumaker (Tina) and Shawn L. Shumaker (Kelly). She was a proud and loving grandmother to eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

Family was always at the center of Sue’s life. She took great pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and treasured the time she spent with them. Her home was a place filled with memories, conversation, laughter, and the everyday moments that become the ones a family remembers most.

Sue shared many wonderful years in Elyria with Bill, standing beside him through the years as they raised their family and watched it grow through generations. Their 67 years of marriage were a testament to their love, devotion, and commitment to one another and to the family they built together.

Those who knew Sue will remember her for her devotion to her family, her caring nature, her strength and the love she had for the people who meant the most to her. Her presence will be deeply missed but the memories she created and the love she gave will continue through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends.

Sue’s legacy will live on in the family she loved so dearly and in the countless memories they will carry with them always.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral home and Cremation Services of Elyria. Online condolences may be expressed at www.laubenthalmercado.com.
