Linda Purdey, 84, of Elyria, OH passed away January 17, 2025 at St. John Medical Center in Westlake due to complications from leukemia. Linda was born in Corry, PA on April 20, 1940 to Leslie and Betty Wilkinson. She was the oldest of 6 siblings. Linda married her best and friend and love of her life, Carleton Purdey, on August 20, 1960. Their 64 year marriage began in Corry, PA for 1 year followed by a move to Westerville, OH for 2 years. In Westerville, Linda worked as a secretary helping to support Carl in college. They moved to North Ridgeville for 3 years and finally a move to Elyria for the past 58 years. During that time, Linda worked for 13 years at the Elyria Chamber of Commerce then 23 years as a merchandiser for American Greetings. As a woman of faith, Linda was active in church her entire life serving God. Most recently, Linda headed up a Community Breakfast at church for those in need. During her time in this role, the weekly breakfast attendees grew from 15 each week to 140 each week. Linda recognized the needs of many and always stepped up to serve. Survivors include her husband, Carl; sons, Mark of Dallas and Steven and his wife, Evelyn, of Elyria; granddaughters, Naudia and her husband, Doug, of Brook Park and Vanessa, who is a 3rd year student at Ohio University in Athens; 3 great-grandchildren, Greyson, Asher, and Ymir; siblings, Larry, David, Sally, and Melody. Linda is preceded in death by her sister, Janet. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 10, 2025 at the Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Road (at State Route 57) in Elyria. Reverend Tim Scholl of Emmanuel Lutheran Church will officiate.
