Leroy “Roy” Schaefer, 89, of Camden Township passed away at his home on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 with his wife Carol by his side.

Roy, a beloved husband, father and friend was born July 3, 1936 in Avon, the eldest child of the late Albert and Ona (nee-Reisinger) Schaefer.

He was a 1955 graduate of North Ridgeville High School where he met Carol. They married in 1957. He then served in the United States Army at Fort Ord, California.

After returning to Ohio, Roy worked at Kasper Foundry, then at T.O. Murphy Company as a Local 42 Pipefitter, finishing his career in 1998 at Aztec Chemical. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling the United States, playing cards, woodworking and tinkering in his workshop.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Carol (nee-Pachinger); daughter, Kathy (Phil Frame) of Camillus, NY.; son, Gary of Shelby, OH.; sister, Alberta Uehlein; in-laws, Al and Pauline Pachinger and Linda and Barney Hartman, plus several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Ference, brother-in-law, Roger Uehlein and a niece Kim Oldfield.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Sunday May 31 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the old Camden School on Route 511 in the Village of Kipton, OH.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elyria.
