Lawrence J. Schaefer 87 of Elyria passed away Tuesday March 15, 2016 at Ames Family Hospice House in Westlake. He was born September 28 , 1928 in Belden, Ohio and was a graduate of Midview High School. Lawrence worked for Ridgetool until his retirement. He was a member of American Legion Post 12 of Elyria, was Mr. Basketball of Lorain County, was known as the Belden flash, in the Basketball Hall of Fame. Lawrence enjoyed Bowling , Golf , traveling and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He served his Country in the Army during the Korean War. Survivors include his daughter Judith M. (David) Pick of Grafton , sons Rob L. (Donna) Licker of Vacaville, Ca. , Ronald A. (Chris) Licker of Walton Hills , 7 grandchildren , 7 great-grandchildren , sister Emmy Schaefer of Medina , brother Frank of Elyria. Family would like to give special thanks to grandson Tony and his wife Lara for the excellent care they gave Lawrence. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 yrs. Doris (nee Meeker), parents Carl and Mary Schaefer.. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Friday March 18, 2016 at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church 1824 Station Rd. Valley City , Oh 44280. Rev. Fr. Thomas Dunphy, Pastor will be the Celebrant. (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH).
