Lawrence R. Monschein, 81, of Elyria passed away Friday April 14, 2017 at St. John Medical Center in Westlake following a brief illness. He was born November 23, 1935 in Elyria and was an Elyria resident for most of his life. Larry worked for many years at the Bendix-Westinghouse Company where he retired as a maintenance supervisor. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Elyria, served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the V.F.W. Post 1079 and the American Legion Post 12. Larry also worked 35 years as a referee for C.Y.O. and high school football and was a avid Cleveland sports fan. Survivors include his daughters, Allison (Ray) Phelps and Debbie Monschein; sons, Kevin (Pam) Monschein and Dennis Monschein; grandchildren, Kyle, Brett, Randy, Kaitlynn, Amanda, Emily, Anthony and Brittany; great-grandson, Austin; brothers, Kenny, George and Charlie Monschein. He was preceded in death by his wife Karen, parents, Bill and Edith "Eddie" Monschein and a brother, Fred Monschein. The family will receive friends Wednesday 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Specialists 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday April 20, 2017 in the funeral home. The Rev. Fr. Frank P. Kosem, pastor of St. Jude Church will Officiate. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria, where members of V.F.W. Post 1079 will conduct full military honors.
