Lawrence Thomas Cullen, 78, of North Ridgeville, formerly of Culver City, California, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2016 following a courageous battle with lung cancer. Larry is survived by his loving wife, Sherry; beloved children, Sean (Naomi) FayeCullen, Erin Cullen (Nick Collura); stepchildren, Erik (Julie) Ellingsworth, Amy (Greg) Thomas and six beautiful grandchildren, Owen, Desmond, Obie Buster, Winston, Rachel and Sara. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys (nee Rayner) and siblings, John and Suzann. Larry was known as the "Maitre d' to the stars" and was a legend in his own time. For 30 years, Larry was the Maitre d' at Matteo's, a well-known Hollywood restaurant on Westwood Boulevard. It was there that Larry earned his star-studded reputation, catering to celebrities, such as Frank Sinatra, Lucille Ball, Jack Lemmon, Milton Berle and Presidents, such as John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan. Larry continued his career in the restaurant business at Moss' in Elyria after he moved to Ohio to marry his love, Sherry. He was the consummate host, even after retirement, and received so much pleasure catering to those he loved. Larry led such a colorful life and touched so many people with his infectious joy, laughter and love. He was known for his lively, entertaining stories of his Hollywood days and had a story for everything and everyone! Larry had the heart of a poet and thespian, always living life to the fullest with a gleam in his clear blue eyes that were full of love and light. The family will host an open celebration of life for family and friends Saturday, August 6, 2016 from 1 to 3 P.M. at The Unicorn Restaurant, 423 Main St., Grafton, OH 44044. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Larry's honor may be made to The Seidman Cancer Center, 29325 Health Campus Drive, Suite 1, Westlake, OH 44145.
