Obituary

Lawrence M. Beckett 80, of Wellington passed away Wednesday January 2, 2012 at Fisher Titus Medical Center in Norwalk following a brief illness. He was born October 12, 1932 in Warsaw, KY. Lawrence served in the U.S. Army as a motor pool mechanic while stationed in France. He retired in 1983 from the Chevrolet plant in Brook Park as a crane operator following thirty years of service. Lawrence also worked as a truck driver for Elyria Manufacturing in the 1990's. He was an avid ham radio operator, and enjoyed reading Westerns especially by Louis L'Amour, and watching Cleveland Browns, Indians and Cavaliers. Survivors include his wife of sixty two years; Nettie J. (nee: Quillen), a son; Don Beckett (Judy) of Grafton, two grandchildren; Jeffrey S. Beckett of Ann Arbor, MI, Victoria L. Clay (Rob) of Grafton, and two brothers; Clarence Beckett Jr. of Edmonton, KY, and Douglas Beckett (Evon) of Olmsted Falls. Friends may call 4-7 PM Monday January 7, 2013 at The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57) Elyria (440)322-4626 where funeral services will be at 7:00 PM following visitation; V.F.W.. Post # 1079 will provide full military honors.
