Laura M. Schramm (nee: Collins), 50, of Elyria, passed away on Friday, August 7, 2026 surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Mansfield, Ohio on April 21, 1976 to parents James Collins, Jr. and Deena (nee: Fuller).
She was a devoted and nurturing woman whose greatest joy came from caring for the people she loved. She had a remarkable way of making everyone around her feel welcomed, supported, and cared for, and she was always the one people could count on. Loyal, compassionate, and generous with her time and heart, she never hesitated to put the needs of others before her own. She especially adored babies and took great delight in nurturing and caring for the little ones in her life.
She shared a beautiful lifelong love with her husband, Steve, her high school sweetheart, whom she first met at band camp. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. They especially enjoyed taking cruises together, traveling to new places while simply enjoying each other's company. Their enduring love was a testament to the special bond they shared from their earliest days together. Above all, she will be remembered for her loving heart, unwavering loyalty, and the countless ways she cared for those around her. She gave so much of herself to her family and friends and leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and devotion that will continue to live on in all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Laura leaves behind her husband of 30 years, Steve; children, Gabrielle (Michael) Murphy, Hannah and Tyler Schramm; grandchildren, Adilynn and Patrick Murphy; mother, Deena Collins; nephew, Robert Howdeshell. She is preceded in death by her father and her sister, Kymberly Howdeshell.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Road (at State Route 57) in Elyria.
