Kristin S. Zelenka, 66, of Elyria passed away on Thursday March 28, 2024 at her home following a brief illness. Kristin was born on July 14, 1957 to the late Ralph R. and Virginia D. Sevebeck. Beloved wife of James H. Zelenka for 45 years, supportive mother of her two children, Elizabeth J. Maclean (Ryan Sibert) and James C. Zelenka, sister to William R. Sevebeck (Kathy), Nana to 4 grandchildren, Ayden, Maddelin, Gage and Jace. Sister-in-law to Carol Buckley, aunt to many nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her barn family, friends, a barn full of horses and her two cats, Smokey and Bandit. Kris was a 1975 graduate of Bay Village High School. As a youth she was a member of Lorain County 4H, where she met her husband Jim, while showing horses. Together they built a life and horse boarding business, which became Zelenka Paint Farm. She and Jim also owned a bar/restaurant business, The Pub, for 32 years. Kris served as a 4H advisor for 15 years, queen and horseman chair for Lorain County 4H for 3 years and a FFA chaperone. She loved showing her two horses, Terra and Gigi. She was able to compete one last time in September of 2023, surrounded by her family and her barn family. Kris was a skilled seamstress, enjoyed word find, slot machine games, music, dancing and singing. She also loved cooking and shared all of her favorite dishes with everyone and she sprinkled a little love in everything she made. With a strong opinion, fiercely determined and compassionate about everything she believed in, Kris lived her life her way. The family will receive friends 1:00-3:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Tuesday April 9, 2024 at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria.
