Obituary

Kenneth William Freeland, 61, of Elyria passed away Friday, December 12, 2025 at The Avenue of North Ridgeville nursing home following a long illness. He was born November 30, 1964 in Lorain. Ken was a long-time member of St. Anthony Church and graduated from Lorain High School in 1985. Upon moving to Elyria he became a member of St. Mary Church and worked as an assembler at the Murray Ridge Workshop.

Because of his effort to meet a life-long challenge, Ken was an inspiration to many who knew him. He found meaning through the connections he made with those around him. He liked to be of service to others and participated in charity walks for various causes as well as volunteered to make pierogis at St. Anthony's in Lorain. Ken participated in Special Olympics. He enjoyed bowling and golf tournaments and took pride in his performance. He loved being with family and was always enthusiastic about the next family gathering no matter the time of year. His love for life and for the people in his life was infectious. His greatest quality is that he was a loving son, grandson, brother, uncle, and great uncle, as well as a friend to many.

Survivors include two sisters: Mary Jo Diederick (Malcolm) of Sheffield Village, Michelle Lightfoot (Dennis) of Avon Lake; two brothers: Robert Freeland of Lorain, John Freeland of Columbus, many nieces and nephews, and great nieces/nephews. Ken was preceded in death by his parents: Robert C. and Joan (nee: Huber) Freeland. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 12:00 noon Monday December 22, 2025 in The Weigand Room at St. Mary Church 320 Middle Ave. Elyria, Oh 44035. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00 Noon. The Reverend Father Charles T. Diedrick, Pastor will be the Celebrant. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Avon. Ken's family suggests that contributions in his memory be sent to St. Mary Church, Special Olympics, or the Alzheimer's Association.  Funeral arrangements were entrusted to The Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home of Elyria (440) 322-4626.
