Kenneth E. "Ken" Reddinger Sr., 78, of Elyria passed away Monday, March 8, 2021 at University Hospital Elyria Medical Center after a short illness. He was born November 7, 1942 in Hammond, IN. moving to Elyria at the age of 2. He was a graduate of Elyria Catholic High School (1960) and attended Kent State University and LCCC. Ken worked for Thew Shovel in Lorain (Koehring), was an Elyria FireFighter and left the Fire Department to continue to help build the family business started by his father "Ed" ( Buckeye State Welding and Fabricating, Inc.) He was a member of the US Coast Guard Auxillary/ Station Lorain. Ken and Kathy were owners of Bag The Moon Bar/Restaurant on Kelleys Island for 26 years. He enjoyed fishing, riding his Harley, Sunday Fundays, cigars, and good bourbon but especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 57 years Kathy (nee Schmitz); daughter, Kellie Reddinger of Elyria; sons, Ken (Donna) Jr. of Elyria, Keith (Heidi) of N. Olmsted, Kevin (Jenell) of Elyria; grandchildren, Ryan, Danielle, Sierra, Jaydin, Kollin, Kohle, Kayla, and Kevin; great grandson Justin; brothers, Patrick and Christopher (Nancy). He was preceded in death by his parents Edward K. and Helen Reddinger (nee Musnicki). Family will receive friends for a Celebration of Life from 1 PM until time of short service at 4 PM Sunday, March 14, 2021 at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at St. Rt. 57), Elyria 440-322-4626. Family requests casual dress. Fr. Joe Robinson of St. Peter Catholic Church will officiate. Per CDC guidelines social distancing will be observed.
